October 15, 2026: The Half-Filled Cellar
Mid-October, a lantern goes down the cellar stairs to count what the harvest stored: jars, sacks, wood, against the months ahead. Often the answer is half. That is the honest count: count first, decide how to feel afterward. A cellar nobody visits turns into a mood. Which cellar of yours has not seen a lantern since spring?

Overall Frequency
Mid-October was counting time. The harvest mostly in, the household took a lantern down the cellar stairs and made the honest tour: so many jars, so many sacks, so much wood, measured against so many months of winter. Sometimes the shelves gladdened. Often they said half: enough with care, short without it. And the half-filled cellar was met, by any household that intended to see April, with neither panic nor pretense, but with arithmetic: what is here, what is needed, what must change.
A Reflection Question
Which cellar of mine have I not toured by honest count since spring?
A Practice for Today
Take the literal tour: pantry, freezer, fuel, and first-aid shelf counted against the coming months, with a short list made of what winter still needs.

Universal Guidance
✦
Shadows inflate in an uncounted cellar, and so do imaginary jars. Carry the lantern down while October can still act on the answer: the count is the calmest thing in the house.
