August 12, 2026: The Borrowed Trouble
All night the mind pays a bill no one has sent: the argument rehearsed, the result feared, the shortfall of a month that has not arrived. That is worry, interest on a debt that may never exist. The day in front of you asks only for what it brings, and it never charges in advance.

Overall Frequency
There is a moneylender who works inside the human skull, and his terms are the worst ever offered: he collects interest, in full, on debts that may never come due. The dreaded conversation that goes fine; the diagnosis that comes back clear; the shortfall that never arrives: each was paid for in advance, at night, in the coin of sleep and presence and joy. The old phrase for this arrangement is exact: borrowing trouble. This morning the traditions gather around the ledger of the anxious mind, and their shared finding is gentle and blunt at once: the trouble you are suffering today is mostly borrowed, and there is an older way to hold tomorrow.
A Reflection Question
How many of the troubles I paid for in advance ever came due?
