July 25, 2026: The Open Table
An extra plate waits on the table, set before anyone has knocked. That is welcome, room made before it is asked for. The odd math of the open place is that whoever sets it leaves the table most fed. At tonight's table, is there a circle that closes just short of someone? One pulled chair would open it.

Overall Frequency
The oldest scenes in the world's scriptures keep taking place at tent flaps and doorways: a traveler appears on the horizon, dusty and unknown, and someone runs, actually runs, to meet him, brings water for the feet, kills the fatted calf, bakes the bread. Only later, sometimes never, is it discovered who the stranger was: an angel, a god, a prophet, the Lord himself in workman's clothes. This morning the traditions gather at the doorway, around one of the most unanimous teachings they possess: the stranger at the door is a test, a gift, and a guest of honor, and the table is where the human family is stitched back together, one meal at a time.
A Reflection Question
Who made room for me the last time I was the new one, unknown and hoping?
A Practice for Today
Invite someone outside your usual circle to a meal this weekend. The asking is the practice. What you cook does not matter.
The rest of this day lives in the app: its traditions, its theme, and the fuller set of questions and practices.
Universal Guidance
✦
No one ever discovered the angel by checking credentials at the door. Set the table first; the identities reveal themselves over bread.
