July 9, 2026: The Narrow Passage

Courage ✦ Fear ✦ Steadfastness ✦ Crossing ✦ Heart

A doorway can look too narrow to walk through, right up until someone is through it. The tightness is fear, and it guards only the first step. A conversation put off for weeks is a doorway like that: narrow from outside, wider after one sentence. The phone in your pocket may hold one of those conversations.

Overall Frequency

Every life contains narrow passages: the conversation that must finally happen, the diagnosis waiting in an envelope, the decision that cannot be postponed again, the first day of the thing you are not sure you can do. This morning the traditions gather around those tight places, and their counsel is strikingly uniform. The passage does not widen for those who wait at its mouth. It widens for those who enter.

A Reflection Question

How long have I been standing at the mouth of the thing I keep circling?

A Practice for Today

Write the thing you fear in one plain sentence, then the worst that could actually happen beneath it. Look at both until they are only words on paper.

Universal Guidance

✦

The passage is narrow only at the entrance. Fear measures the mouth; courage discovers the width.
